Sony 120W Projector Lamps: the PX1

The Sony Corporation has a number of projectors on the market today and a number of them use 120W projector lamps. Since our sister site (www.myprojectorlamps.com) sells 120W projector lamps, we have decided to pick a projector, the Sony PX1, that uses these lamps and write about the good, bad and ugly concerning it.

The Sony PX1 has a lot of good things about it. The projector first debuted in late, late 1999, December to be exact. The projector is unique as Sony obviously released it to be a high-end LCD projector that the user could take around with them. It is a large white projector, with a large handle that pops up from the side of the unit. The projector actually has a foot stand as well that pops down from the bottom similar to the carrying handle.

The Sony PX1 is unique because when it is functioning, it sits on its side in the vertical position. A few projectors have tried this arrangement over the years with mixed success. When it comes to the Sony PX1, in all our research we have never run across somebody that was unhappy with their PX1. That is a pretty astounding fact, as most projectors we review at least have a few owners with quibs or quabbles.

As mentioned earlier the projector lamp inside the unit is a 120W lamp available at myprojectorlamps.com The beamer, as the Dutch call it, produces a fair amount of ANSI lumens, 1000 to be exact. When we test ran the unit it could easily project a bright, clear image onto our screen in the daytime.

The PX1 has a aspect ratio of 4:3 and two resolution settings. The native resolution for the projector is 1024x768 and the maximum resolution for the PX1 is 1280x1024, making the unit absolutely capable of handling the resolution levels of most personal computers without problem.

Overall this projector handles beautifully, the only drawback is that it is freaking huge. Sony targeted classrooms with this projector and the PX1 is generally best suited for that sort of environment. It is perfect for watching movies in class, especially for 1-6th graders who will think the projector is the coolest thing ever.

Until next time – take it easy.
